Lakewood to test emergency outdoor sirens on Wednesday
Don’t fret that the end of the world is coming to Lakewood when the city’s emergency sirens sound on Wednesday morning.
The sirens, to be sounded at 11 a.m., are only a test. The test should last 30 minutes.
All 26 of the city’s sirens will emit a long wail, followed by a voice test message over the public address system. The test will wrap up with one additional long siren wail.
The annual test of the outdoor siren system is required to ensure that Lakewood’s sirens are working properly. If weather conditions at the time of the siren test indicate that a tornado watch or warning is imminent for Lakewood, the test will be canceled.
