Pueblo police officer fatally shoots driver, injures passenger while dragged by stolen car – The Denver Post
While being dragged by a stolen vehicle, a Pueblo police officer shot and killed a male driver and seriously injured a female passenger early Friday morning, police said.
The officer received minor injuries during the 2 a.m. incident near East Fourth Street and Reading Avenue, according to a Pueblo police news release.
The unidentified Pueblo officer spotted the stolen sedan and made contact with the suspects inside the car, the news release said.
“While the details of the incident are still under investigation, at some point the officer was dragged by the stolen vehicle as he contacted the suspects,” the release said.
The officer then fired his handgun, striking both the driver and the passenger, police said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting. It was the Pueblo Police Department’s third officer-involved shooting in 2020, the news release said.
